Only God's Holy Spirit Can Describe Who Jesus Is

"The Greek word for 'indescribable' is used nowhere else in the New Testament and is translated as meaning 'unutterable.'  It means that words cannot describe and no human can fully appreciate the magnitude of the gift."

"Not capable of being altered or changed" is how Merriam Webster defines unutterable. God's gift, Jesus, will never change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever!

Man's imaginative portrayal of Jesus in "The Chosen" will never make Jesus anything or anyone who is different from the Jesus we know from the Holy Bible. Oh, that all would understand!  Only God's Holy Spirit can reveal who Jesus is to us, and we cannot express this revelation in any human language.

"Not able to be expressed in words" is how  Oxford Languages Dictionary defines unspeakable. As Peter tells us, we rejoice in Jesus with inexpressible and glorious joy!

I Peter 1:8 CSB Though you have not seen him, you love him; though not seeing him now, you believe in him, and you rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy,

I Peter 1:8 KJV Whom having not seen, you love; in whom, though now you see him not, yet believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

No gift will ever compare to God's gift of Jesus.  A little church I often pass has a sign out this Christmas that says, "The Perfect Gift is here."

On the other side of the sign are the words, "God wants you for Christmas."

Yes, God wants us to know His Son through the joy of His Holy Spirit.  Who Jesus is cannot be expressed with man's words and images.  Jesus is a heart revelation, not an historical drama revelation.

  2. This is so true! Everything we need to know about God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is in God's word. If He wanted us to know more, He would have written more. When we create our own image, it is a false idol and no matter how much we want it to be the true Jesus, it is not. Thank you for speaking the truth!!
